Gates open @ 1pm
Racing begins @ 2pm
Racing is scheduled to end at 6. Arrangements have been made with track management for gates to stay open if needed to complete the competition.
Our shootout will have its own two lanes keep your timeslips and come back to the pits and give us your times so we can write it down.

REQUIREMENTS:
Cars, Trucks ans SUV's, no bikes!
DOT approved tires (DOT Bias-ply allowed)
Manual and automatic equipped cars.
Any combination of power adders.
10.00 ET and slower cars. Car must have never made a 9.99 or faster pass in its history!
Must be a member of http://www.IowaAutoForums.com and/or http://www.Dragsource.net

Bracketed field consisting of any make/model/power adder combo out there! Competitors will complete 1-2 passes prior to the bracketed racing. Field will be paired with the 2 fastest cars going on opposite ends of the field. Fastest ET cars race against slowest ET cars. May the fastest car win!

Quickest overall car (Trophy, $100 prize money and a 1 hour dyno certificate at Wrenches)
Quickest Import/Sport Compact (Trophy, 1 hour Wrenches dyno cert, $50 ImportEvolution.com gift cert)

Closest competitor average to 12.00 (Trophy)
Closest competitor average to 11.00 (Trophy)

The event was kinda based of the manual shootout last year. However not allowing autos was just eliminating too many people. But allowing autos opened up the door to 8-9 second cars. Those cars compete in other events such as the 10.5 class. What would be the fun of having one of those cars come up and sandbag their way to a 10.0 and win.

As for the manuals, they probably dont need a ET restriction, last year there was no restriction and the fastest pass was 10.5 .

Honestly, if you are a nitrous car and have a 9.99 or faster slip, I'd be okay as long as the bottle is out of the car, and its a known 10.00 or slower car off the hose. (I know, I know..its the Rich Christensen in me...ghey..)

The deal is that we had a super competative event last year at the manual shootout. The finals was decided by .02. We want this one to be similarly competative, and most importantly, fair amongst street cars. I really don't want someone to come in and sandbag their way to a win. Especially with the prizes starting to mount up.

Can all the above cars mentioned drive to the track or maybe say 50 miles under their own power?

I'm not saying this is a super serious event or anything, I just want it to be fun for the people who typically only get TNT's for their racing experience.

They all hook on the bottle so I don't see them having much problem maximizing all the NA power they can muster deep into the 10's all day every pass. Stick cars will be toast. Still worth watching though, but I'd like to see cars have to do a auto x type course and drag race. Thats a street car to me, but to each is own.

Allison is going to be driving the silver car for awhile N/A untill she gets comfortable, then we will turn the juice on and get her use to that. Once she feels comfortable running 9s in the silver car, I told her she can run the black car witch is technically hers to lol since its will be a little more obnoxious on motor this year. I guess we will play it buy ear but i would love to see my wife make a 8 second pass on 10.5 tire someday. I think that would be awesome and she is super stoked dad is putting her in his car! I already had to order the pink helmet and shoes and i think dad picked her up a neat fire suite!

I see your point scott, but at the same time this is more a gathering for your cobra, that you guys do take on the street. I dont know what that car runs, but you should def take it. Tough call having the race cars in the street car shootout, But who wouldnt want more people at the event?!

Not to start another opinion war but if it was track only I sure as heck wouldnt be paying for insurance, tags, and left free HP on the table by building it to be a pump gas friendly engine. I do see your point as well, but if you had those 2 cars in your garage and got to pick which one to bring to a drag race I think the choice would be fairly obvious!

but I would love to bring the Cobra to a Auto-x event sometime, even though the tires suck and its a overpowered heavy pig I still think it would be a fun time since I've tried alot of car racing with the exception of that.

If it was me, i probably wouldn't want to buy an et street if i already owned a slick just to qualify for this event so that kinda sucks . i guess a line has to be drawn somewhere for rules though.

Don't budge those rules. Its good to have the line drawn as you stated. I'm not about to buy a set of tires....for one race. MY IFO/NSCRA schedule lets me use my non-DOT tire. So no need to waste 3-4-5 hundred on another set. And then another set of rims to. I'm sure I will be here thought.

Got the new window in, return fuel style system is going and pressure is checking out good. Tightened down the valve covers a bit( little leaky). Just needs an oil change here and its good to go. Hoping for consistent high/mid 12's as long as she runs at her N/A best!

I was talking with dustin, and he says you can get some dot approved 15" tires from a class that races at hawkeye downs pretty cheap. They would be about 8" wide though, not sure if those will help you much.

the sportsman class runs treaded bias-ply tires that are pretty cheap to buy and still pretty damn sticky. Apples used to run them on his Monte. i dont know if they're still Hoosier brand, or American Racer, or what. i'm buying a decent used pair from a friend who races out there for $50. i'll let you know how they feel on my truck.

I put the 93 octane tune in it, ran the 89 octane tune in it before..car is hooking to so thats a big difference to, still only leaving at 1800 rpms but went 1.70s 60 ft which is pretty good for that car..

Sorry man, a rule like the one above is there specifically to keep someone from sandbagging their way to a win. You want to race with no nitrous, and the car has never gone 9.99 or faster off the bottle, you're welcome to come race. This was originally designed to be a competition amongst true street cars. Simply put.

Call my car a race car all you want but I have posted videos of me running 10.6's on slicks just last weekend.

I don't think there is a 10.5 tire race the weekend of the 18th like I originally thought so you 9 and 8 second guys obviously can race right along with the competition, just not in it. If enough of you are wanting to compete, maybe an additional class or award could be made up..?

Originally the rules were made up in the moderator sections of dragsource and IAF . there were to be no exceptions to any car that has ever ran 9.99 or faster.

Rob did express in the moderator section that he would be ok with ed running without nitrous. soon after that scott was interested in running without his nitrous and nobody knows what that cars runs, could be a 9 sec car NA. Rob never provided an opinion on scott. So Ed is the one and only exception I think should be made just because we know what ed's car ran last year na.

So to go along with Rob, I say if ed is willing to run without nitrous and willing to let whoever inspect his car than he can run. Leave the bottle at home, if you are making some non-shootout passes with nitrous on the same day that will get too complicated to monitor.

If there is going to be controversy it may be best to stick firm to the original rules.

I agree with that. When we were originally talking about it, we just thought that excluding the autos really limited the amount of people/cars that could compete. Maybe it will end up being more work than anything else. I guess having the shootout once this way at least once is about the only way to find out.

Naa, I'm about out of gear on the stock rear end unless I shift to 5th. The 4.10 rear is pretty worthless, 1st and 2nd go by quick, sucks for traction and keeping the turbo spooled. I'm also gambling on a non-forged ls1 as it is. Maybe next year.

I'll be calling the track in the next couple days to kinda give them a approximate car count and see what how they'll be willing to work with us for the event.

On that note, I might request that we get a couple of the staging lanes to ourselves. At least at specific times during the day. Anyone have any other ideas that may be worth requesting?

Some trophies will be functional, but they are all handmade mostly out of sheet metal and spare parts. I'm not a metal fab guru or anything, but I have about 3 hours on each trophy at average. I think everybody will like them.

Well it's a USDM 2JZ-GTE swapped 5 year project, with nearly everything I could get for it. This first year out will be a shake down year running low boost (Black spring on HKS). I know that's a long shake down, but I want to be safe as it's been a while since I've driven it. Last an fittings and datalogger show up tomorrow. So I should have a couple good weeks to break her in. I can't sleep I'm so excited.

I'll post a build thread on here in the next day or two.

So, depending on how all of that works out, I might try to make it. Not sure if I will be running anything but it would be nice to actually make it to an IAF gathering! I went to the picnic at coralville a couple/few years back it when it was WINDY and FREEZING so it kinda sucked and I only hung out for like 30 minutes or so.

Shop is in fairfax, house is on 33rd ave, over by Wal-Mart... Did not know they where widening the street when we moved in there. house is awesome but the front door is no like 10ft from a super busy 4 lane road, back yard is a 60*+ incline and nowhere near big enough. The house we are suppose to move into in Fairfax is not going to happen because her grandpa doesn't know anything about privacy/personal space.

me too! This is my 5th move in the last 4 years... the house is easy, moving all the garage shit is what I hate! I am planning on this being my last move until I buy a house. Her grandpa gave us the 33rd ave house but after living there only a few months, they started tearing shit up and we hated it. Then they offered us the house right next to my shop out in Fairfax but we are not getting along to great with her grandpa ever since her grandma died so we decided against that. Shit just keeps not going quite right for one reason or another! LOL I have a shit ton of money saved up for a down payment on house though, just have to find the right one...

ANYWAYS, back on topic, I do plan to be there, just not sure if I will be making any passes.

Looks like I'll be racing on my 18" Nitto dr's. Honestly if I manage to get into the 10's I'll be real happy.

I can't justify spending like $400 on a set of tires I'll use once.

Yeah the drive to and from the track last year pretty much did those in. They were showing cords by the time I got home.
