Jeez, that just seems like such an odd vehicle for you. I'm so used to seeing things about the Talon and the Forester I just figured you'd always be in an import.

Kind of a switch I know. Wanted to give something different a try. It gets a long pretty good, and I really lucked out with the condition of this truck. I had a few friends take a look and they decided for me it cant be driven in the snow, or salt or rain or chance of rain or if its too sunny out...

Previous owner was 65 and drove about 4,000 miles a year.

sounds like you need to buy a big 4x4 for every day that isn't sunny.

if you ever decide to race it , the second gen's from what I understand can fit a wider tire in the rear

I thought so Jake, it appears to have a lot of room in there for some rubber. I just want wheels with a better offset and wider to fill up those flares appropriately.

McKeever, your parents will be pissed, because you are correct.

Haha Thanks Rob.

I dont want anyone to get too excited about anything happening to it. I cant get myself to do anything that could take away from the truck. So the sound system will be pretty subtle, but nice. The engine will have to stay a 4.3v6 unless something un-forseen happens to it (unlikely 46k on it). I just hope to keep it clean and start hauling more cameras around for some of these events around here.

i like the blacked out turn signals and debadged. No antena? how will you listen to the radio lol.

No blacked out tails? I was thinking they stood out pretty bad.

I am pretty sure you can get a antenna that mounts inside the headliner that works as good. Been awhile since I looked at stereo stuff though.

Drifte
03-17-2011, 12:35 PM
I should have done a side by side game and said find all the things that are different. The blacked out tail lights to me are over done and a little tacky. Only thing I know I really want to do is debadge it. Antenna can be swapped for a much smaller one or a window type. Stereo going in is bluetooth/ipod etc so chances are I wont need the radio even for bob and tom. I'll just podcast. Whats funny is how many cops I've seen without my front plate (or even when the rear was off) that didnt even give me a second look. Days in the Talon I could go 2 miles and get pulled over twice.

I have a minor bolt on mod list, never will be fast with that v6. Will have to save and pile parts for lq6 (or the like) swap in years to come.

tell me about it.. I drove my civic a TON without a front plate and never got a look.

I got pulled over within 2 minutes of getting into town in my firebird without any plates, also got pulled over a couple times in the talon when I was waiting for the title.

Minor update, limited pics since my iphone died on me :(

No finished pics but the setup goes as follows:
1x JVC kd-a815 BT, USB, Ipod. basically awesome
2x Kicker CVR8's 2.7 cubes sealed, soon to be ported tuned to about 32hz (SQ not SPL, but its not quiet)
1x Kicker IX5001
2x Pioneer ts-d1002r in the dash
2x Pioneer ts-d170r in the doors (kevlar cone, silk tweeter for both sets)

Lots of sound deadening

noting wrong with 8's.... they fit nice in the truck and the sound quality is great. Louder then you would think and balanced nicly with the other speakers.

Thanks
The amp has yet to get above room temperature, and its been on for some long drives. Subs sound great, and pretty loud for 8's. I am tempted to sell off the 8's though and run a single sub to free up space on one side of the cab for a 3rd passenger.

I really like the sound of a decent size ported box. -3db freeair point is sooooo much lower than smaller sealed/ported boxes. I've really been toying with the idea of building some boxes for the junk I have around the house (I use to build some crazy stuff back in the day). I always love to see how something is going to sound when it's done.

86svo9L
10-19-2011, 08:12 AM
Can't blame you for that, losing space always sucks. Running a ported box in a truck cab is almost the only way to go as far as sound quality goes though, small sealed boxes just dont get the air movement they need to sound good, so you may need to find some middle ground. It will still sound decent either way I am sure, tends to effect cheaper stuff more but since you have top quality stuff you have much much less to worry about.

Before I added the port the bass was tight, never low. If I wanted it to get loud I had to open the windows to let the pressure out. Now that its ported it sounds really get, gets low, and loud. And now opening the windows gives a smaller gain, but still some. I need to finish a box design for a friend yet thats pretty unusual, Im sure he'll post it up when done. My last 15" transmission line sub does work for the party's. But Im ready to step it up again.

Trucks tuned for 35hz for a reasonably flat response, spikes pretty good at 34-25hz. But the rumble is a nice massage or knock some burps loose.

I've got a old atomic HPW 1094 that I came up with a sweet 6th order bandpass box in winisd for. Probelm is to make it play lowwwwwww it needs to be biiiiig :) Not quite sure I want it sitting in the living room (it's around 2.7 cuft internal). The group delay gets a little funky on these also. Fun stuff.

2.7 cf for each chamber? I probably wouldn't use 6th order in HT or home setup. I need to do my coffee table HT build already. Id like to give a folded horn a try for my next party sub.

No total, but I didn't want anything big cluttering up the upstairs room. I thought about building it into the floor and venting it through the floor also. I was just looking at it for the added natural x over ability over what my receiver has (built in sub power) as I'm a cheap azz:).

Drifte
10-19-2011, 01:41 PM
IB with floor vent from basement would be fun. Unfinished basement has been persuading me to try that. Theirs the attic route too. Running an all in one unit for HT use at the moment (something I swore against for years). Sold off all the HT stuff, receivers, speakers, powered sub. Need to get back into it, but I kind of want to overkill it with ED cinema speakers. Then I think I should run nice quality smaller speakers and a regular 7.1 receiver.

I have a problem. First steps admitting it, second step is shopping for more speakers.

edit
I have a long way to go.

Lol, thats where he wanted it. I never even turned it up though. btw, he started my motorcycle last weekend. flipped kill switch, turned key, pushed start, and then revved it (then his mom came and yelled at me).
