well my new cam didn't arrive today but UPS should have it for me on monday. wish i could snap my fingers and have it installed but i'll have to get my hands dirty. its a mild cam. don't need much cam with a turbo. Should give me at least +50whp on my setup.

That and I have some e85 parts and some exhaust upgrades sitting here. easier to buy than it is to install

here are some idle videos of the same cam on some various ls motors

that is a tried and true mild base cam in the ls world, how well is it going to like the boost? although im sure its better than stock, but why not go with a custom turbo cam?

Hot Rod mag just did a build up on a 5.3 with a chinese T74 (IIRC) and they went with a LS6 cam and managed a hair under 600Hp and that was with the shitty truck intake.

Wouldn't that cam been a cheaper solution with the same results? I'm not trying to be a smartass or anything, just curious.

224 will SIGNIFICANTLY outperform the ls6 cam..ls6 cam isnt worth tearing into the motor for unless you got it dirt cheap and had the motor already out or something..

i did a several hours of reading on turbo ls1 cams and there is a lot of debate about turbo cams. Also had 'slowride' on here provide some good input. according to the techs at some cam companies like comp and many ls1 vendors and misc people, most turbo setups "should" do best with a reverse split cam in theory due to the exhaust cam closing sooner to prevent reversion due to the backpressure on turbo setups.

however there just as many people on ls1tech that have actually dyno'd a reverse split vs single pattern cams and even small conventional splits and have shown no difference or even better results with std cams. speedinc (ed and george's fav shop) is one company that has done some of these dynos and as a result all 4 of their off the shelf turbo cams (tu0, tu1, tu2, tu3) are single pattern cams. the tu1 is very similar to the my tr224.

so i figure why pay more for a reverse split when the used mild cams NA cams are all over the place. I got the cam and beehive springs for $250 shipped, little less than half price of new.

its just a matter of how much boost you want to run to make the power. I've heard of 1000whp with the stock cam but thats pretty rare. However a better cam will make the power with lower boost and allow you to rev higher. my motor is pretty much stock and starting to push the limits so I welcome the lower boost pressure (less cylinder pressure, less heat, less knock, less chance of blowing a head gasket). with my stock 410 rear i'm running out of gear so I have to rev to 7k and the stock cam sucks up there

so I have a set of beehive springs that was thrown in the deal I don't need them if anyone is interested
