I was told getting a throttle body was a cheaper way to boost your horsepower
for the time being without spending 2 grand, i was just wondering your opinions?
Like what are the pros and cons.

its not a good horsepower per dollar mod. the best cheap mod would be a small 50 shot of nitrous. or a cam

Jeez I'm sure there are some good cams you could pick up for reletively cheap through one of the Honda forums. I'd go that route, that and get a decent air intake on that little thing.

Get an intake made fr om TAB fab. it wont cost much and it will be the best intake you can have. If it doesnt already have it, 4-2-1 header ceramic coated, and 2-2.25" header back exhaust. The cam will net the biggest gains, TB will do almost nothing.

Best thing you can do would be make sure everythings in good working order. Clean the TB, run injector cleaner through it. Honda-tech is your new best friend.

Some cars get gains from TB's some don't.

for hondas the stock one is fine.

Honestly, just piece together a turbo kit.
Find a junkyard DSM or something, steal the turbo, sidemount, bov, injectors and just look for deals on other things.

i think you're mixing up the idea of a TB swap with a carburetor swap. back in the day, that used to be the hot ticket; get a Holley carb, and wake the otherwise stock engine up. but with TB's, it really doesnt matter much until you get into the higher HP levels.

I'd swap out the TB. Get one off of an LSX. While you're at it, just swap in an LSX. You'll be more than pleased with the results :yawinkle:

if you add up all the money people spend of minor stuff like underdrive pulleys, intakes, headers, throttle body, lightweight this and that sometimes you just would've been better spending your money on real power adders like turbo, supercharger or nitrous

nitrous is hard to beat for how good it works. i can't say anything bad about it

ha ha, no but really it can be safe. little baby 50 shot won't hurt. i heard scott runs 7 stages of 50 shots ;) get some and keep dallas in line

Start with maintenance.
OEM plug wires, cap, rotor, plugs. Set the timing 2* advanced, and clean air and fuel filters. Port match the intake manifold, a header, and run some seafoam to make sure the injectors are spraying correctly. If you don't get the engine running correctly before changing shit you are wasting money.

Oh, I happen to know where a proven HMT kit can be found, for probably $2-300. It's ghetto but it was on a surprisingly quick red crx that used to roam CR.

I thought at one point joe was giving scott shit for a bunch of stages of nitrous in one of their exchanges. I thought scotty t just ran 7 stages of boost or something :bigthumb:

I never considered that he might mean Mustang Scott. I seem to remember a thread where someone was giving him shit about having so many stages now that you said that.

Either way, Scotty T was running a compound setup with 8 turbos, 4 SC's and a 350 shot to help spool.

Also, :bigthumb:

If you have a compressor, porting is an awesome "free" mod and it's nowhere near as hard as people seem to think. $100 for a die grinder, a couple carbide bits and a bunch of flapper wheels is pretty cheap. Intake manifold, exhaust manifold, throttle body.

I agree a throttle body normally doesn't do much esp if it's a n/a or a blow thru setup. Even on say a 03 cobra with added boost you don't get that much hp unless you put say a big pd supercharger like a 2.9 kb or whipple, they suck air through the throttle body and will cause a restriction.

Keep me in line? i love ppl who have it out for me... lol jkjk. BUt i would have to agree with krustindumm on this one. If ur on a tight budget, keep it simple and just do little shit like maintenance. Start with free shit first: fresh valve lash helps a lot with hondas, and actually... When i had my LS, i had the exhaust cam retarted 2*....... ran real hard upstairs ;) Then move to stuff like plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Then do sum cam seals and other little shit. That CRX with a bone stock LS and LS trans should be high 14s worthy with good driver. My full weight 91 integra with intake and full 2 1/4in exhaust went 15.3 at 89mph.........http://www.flickr.com/photos/38154588@N ... otostream/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/38154588@N08/3506185815/in/photostream/)
