I know you can take the class through Gander Mountian for $100 but i was wondering if anywhere else is offering the class for a better price or it is $100 everywhere?

haven't bought one yet. I have looked around and kind of have an idea. Looking at getting a .45 with a short barrel.

When I still 'lived' in Benton County, I just went to the sherrif's office and signed up for the class there. I think it was only $35 or something.

Im defiantly getting one. I might run down to the sherrif's office and ask to sign up.

From what I've gathered, you just sign up. They pretty much can't deny you....pretty much...

You can have a felony record that is it. They have to give it to you if you have a clean record.

The class at Gander Mountain is through Utah Legal Heat, I took mine through them in Ankeny and it was $75. Gander Mtn is tacking on an extra fee which is BS.

Fierce training down south of IC offers classes, and Utah class, I got my Utah permit thru him. Wolf Creek IDPA near Traer has a website and offer classes one of them is dong NRA pistol class monthly in Marshalltown I believe. I'm pretty sure a NRA handgun class qualifies and is often in the $25 range. I only recommend NRA class if either you don't really plan on carrying or you already took a class to know the basic laws. BIL & sister took a class in Ottumwa area cost $20 or 25 each.

Generally thru the sherifs office is the cheapest route if they still offer one.

Kent, I got one I'll make a good deal for you, compact 9mm, 1 12 rnd mag, 4 17's and a 2 holsters, just broken in with about 4000 rnds thru it.

If anyone is taking the one at Gander, I'll sign up too...I've been procrastinating for awhile. My Kimber gets lonely during the day, it wants to go to work with me.

Yea I don't care to drive all over the place just to find a little bit cheaper of a class. I'll have to see if the sheriffs office still offers a class, if not, on my way to gander mountain I go.

While we are on the subject. Who plans on carrying what. I've been looking around, I've decided I'll prolly have atleast two guns for different occasions. A full size, which I haven't really started looking at my options, but I was looking around just a little bit for smaller more concealable option and I have found a Bersa Thunder .380 or Glock G23. I spoke with my brother in law and he suggested Springfield Armory XD and the Smith & Wesson M&P line. Thoughts suggestions. I've just thought about concealability since i'm a skinny guy but my brother in law is a tall skinny guy and he says he has no problems concealing his full size.

I want a 357 mag but i doubt i will ever carry. i have heard great thins about that round it has the rite combination of mussel velocity and bullet mass to make an excellent self defense round and it is a revolver so you don't have to worry about the spring in the clip waring out

my dad just got a touras judge i wanted one of those until i read that there very inaccurate
when shooting a 45 the chamber is too long letting the bullet tip and the rifling in the barrel speeds the 410 shot shell too much

I carry a Walther P22 and a Beretta Cougar 8040. I don't usually carry the Beretta on me, it usually is in a glovebox or elsewhere in my car.

Robby with the blue x runner, my fiancé and I all took it at gander threw legal heat. It was pretty quick and simple I thought. I have a SR9C and a Ruger LCP .380 for carrying. I like the LCP simply because you can throw it between the waist band and you can’t even feel that it’s there. My Fiance' has the TCP .380 with a Crimps and trace lazor that i think is prety sweet!

I have a pair of Kimber Carry Ultra II's, I'm 6'3 200 and have no problem hiding them. I just sold off my Bersa .380 a few months ago, but that too was a great gun. For how cheap it was, it never jammed and was an easy shooter. I just feel more comfortable with bigger name brands, though, I guess. I also have a police issue Glock 9mm, but I still prefer my Kimbers.

those only for 10 20 ft distance and w proper shot won't go through wall too much if ya miss w the .410. My dad has one, he put buckshot in it I don't know exactly why, would think 4 or 2 shot be better, pepper a guys face ala Cheney he isn't going anywhere.
