Heres a quick program we have been running around testing at work. We basically are running the computers through a vigurous test to see whos performs the best. It's pretty quick to dl and run. Heres a link to the program:

http://passmark.com/

You want to run PerformanceTest 7.0, and once installed all you have to click is "RUN BENCHMARK"

From then dont click anything unless asked to do so. Some computers cant handle the graphics test and you will have to skip it, and we never ran the tests for cdrom speed..really who cares.

My cheap laptop for tuning scored a overall average of 536.6. I think I may have to re run due to walking away and not skipping the cdrom test.

Lets see what you can do, post up a screen shot of your performance test evaluation.

^it's pretty easy to replace if everything else on its still good. One of the backup computers at work that quiet possibly may get thrown away scored an overall 345.5. It's the lowest score we have seen yet.

The highest score was my workstation, with a 904.1

just messing with ya man.

I'm sure alienware uses high end stuff but i'd imagine hardware wise they don't use anything special that isn't available to the general public to buy and build a custom computer with. I'm not into the overclocking game.

you should run the test for shits and giggles.

I usually go with the middle of the road technology and use the price savings to buy more often as the middle of the road newer stuff is always faster then the top of the line old stuff.

That's how I roll too. Except I mostly just pocket the savings and run the computer for 5+ years anyway. This Gateway I'm running right now is only about a year and a half old though. Still running pretty good.

Heres Mine:

1196.6 and mine is pushing 2 years old too. And I bought about the middle of the road with slight overclocking w/ stock cooling. Not bad.

I know you were. I actually bought mine because a high end computer gaming place (one of those places that would rent computers by the hour) decided it was a good business decision to buy all brand new, top of the line Alienware computers. SO, needless to say, at their out of business auction I bought my 6600.00 computer for 1200 with a full warranty. I figured I couldnt have built it for that, plus...it was a 1200 dollar alienware.

I can't find the software to run the test for my mac, but its pretty similar to my work computer. I imagine would score a bit better though as apple does a pretty good job of matching components.

The fruit:
PROCESSOR 3.06GHZ INTEL CORE 2 DUO
MEMORY 2GB 800MHZ DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
GRAPHICS NVIDIA GEFORCE 8800 GS W/512MB
HARD DRIVE 500GB SERIAL ATA DRIVE

Its an early 08' model, I've had to replace the HD and thats it. Imac and macbook pro are known to have early HD failure due to heat.

I think my computer is just pushing 2 years old. Has a lot of room for OCing if I get some decent cooling. The dual monitors is killing my gpu.

That would have been JR high money. Remember the old Imac with the same color scheme? Every computer lab smelled like hot plastic. Im gonna try to fire up some real old computers to see just how demanding we are with computers anymore. My retest this one after a restart and only running one monitor.

Specs:
Graphics - ATI 4890 factory OC
CPU - AMD Phenom II x6 1090t @ 3.2ghz (stock)
RAM - Since one stick went out I'm using 2gb 1333mhz will be 4gb once I get the replacement
HDD - Nothing special Wester Digital Green 500gb

Thanks, I play a lot of computer games, and record those games sometimes too. So I try to keep up to date with things. I had an AMD x3 720 prior to Black Ops but that game is so CPU intensive I had to upgrade.

My AMD Athlon x2 6000+ is still keeping up with most I throw at it, but barely. What games you play besides COD?

n8kerns
01-14-2011, 06:34 PM
Black Ops takes all my time now and I find it the most fun, but I've played Wolfenstein, CS, CS:S, COD4, MW2, QuakeLive, EQ, and WoW. My Phenom x3 720 could handle everything prior to Black Ops just fine but Black Ops is so unrefined for PC that I want all the help I can get on the hardware side. Now at the same time, it's my favorite game yet even though its the worst built imo.

I thought about buying it when Steam had their holiday sale but I didn't see myself playing it. I played it a little on Xbox and was too slow paced for me. MW2 was too fast and BC2 is too slow, Black Ops hits the spot it seems.

Getting annoyed with how ubsurdly slow my work computer is I searched for this sites test. Computer froze trying to run it. I turned off everything on the computer I could, didnt matter. I tried to watch a gopro video I had put on the harddrive...HAH. not an option, audio is jumpy enough but video is just a still shot of when I turned the camera on.

EVGA 3Gb GTX 580 (GPU)

OCZ Vertex 3 120Gb solid state drive
Lamptron FC-5V2 (fan controller)
Corsair 800D (case) and AX1200 (PSU)
Watercooled, dual core radiator, single loop

This was the first PC I ever built from scratch. I wanted to go water cooled to test my abilities. It was a very fun project. I used distilled water, a 99.999% pure silver coil and a drop of biocide to keep the water clean. Haven't had a single issue.
