Had a friend recently note that of all the enclosures I've made I dont have one for my own. So here is the project:

Goal:
Really low, Loud, Cheap, efficient.

Power:
Dayton HPSA500 Sub amp. Lots of control with this amp, not a huge amount of power though.

Driver:
(heres where I really cheaped out) Boss cx15 500wrms, perk- 96db efficient.

To get what I want out of this setup I couldnt put together a typical sealed or vented enclosure. Granted a vented enclosure at 5 cubes would do well, I wanted something different. I've been wanting to build one for a while, so its going with Transmission line/ 1.4 wave.

Quick sketch of the enclosure:

25hz, equivalent to a 13' long box.

Updates as I move a long.

lol, it could sound terrible. T-lines are a trial and error thing with larger speakers.

If that doesn't work out I have a dual 12 vented home theater enclosure that i'm looking to sell.

It has the amp cutout for those dayton amps too.

I sold my old Dual 12" HT sub. This box is for a 15 though, and for a regular enclosure requires a minimum of 2cubes. Should sound good in this one, will hopefully get a test in of it tonight!

This things looking good.

I'm thinking about something really unpractical to put in my civic, after my buddy was able to fit his MASSIVE box in the back when he borrowed it to take it to a shop to have the box re-done to save on gas.

Gets me thinkin, but I almost think a big box in the back of my civic would make me hate it even more.
I should at least get some speakers / headunit.. Cassette / Ipod / stock speakers that barely work just aint cutting it.

IDK if it helps put its size into comparison, the speaker on the bench is a 10" 3way about 2' tall.

That thing looks bigger than my folded horns. And they are plenty heavy.

This driver doesnt have the motor control for folded horn, what do you have Rob (Im picturing some full range 4")? Just did some tests last night after the fill was added. Sounds real good, but the garage rattles to much to turn it up.

Have to finish routing, sanding, and get the layer of liner on it. Then some handles so I can actually move it inside and test it.

Ah, the good ole T-line... I ran one in my Astro for a bit with a single 10" and like 1000~ watts. Sound quality was fantastic but just lacked in output, which, is what I am all about.

Idk, you must not have designed it right. A 1/4 wave is known for its ability to get low and loud. Lower than folded horns, but not as loud. But highly efficient. I do hear a lot of people have a hard time getting the design right, and especially so for the first try. The more familiar you are with physics, thermo dynamics, and sound it sorta just comes together. I went for peak output which doesn't use a tapered line, but as a consequence causes a second resonance or peak somewhere over 100hz, but I cross it over at100 anyway.

I remember ultimate Electroics doing this with a 8" cheap rockford sub in a massve box, I think it did 140 DB with 1000watts to it. deep bass and crazy loud for 1 sub.

My next project will be a sonotube, same basic idea, only no bends, and incredibly easy to build.

Oh and I just went and measured the box because my sister in law walked by it and was shorter. It's 5' 3" tall with the wheels on it.

You sure? I remember them doing a 4th order with 4, 8" P1s and 1Kw... never seen the T-line if they did that.

As for the design of mine, I had nothing to do with it, I just built it. The design cost me like $30~ I believe it was from Steve Meade. I ended up doing a flared aero port setup and gained over 3dB from the switch...

Yes they had one 8" sub in a 3-4 cubic foot box. andit was extreaml loud. they had it in one of the sound boths for a while, i was close with all those guys there, in fact 2 of them have a shop on 16th ave,and another install has a shop over by nissan. I prob spent 10k in sound stuff at ultimate thats what i was into before I got the speed bug.

Well, I am glad you caught the speed bug so you stopped wasting money at U.E.

Not trying to be a dick or anything... I just love when people show up with a "$5K system from this/that shop" and score some pathetic shit like a 140. Then There are those of us that spend like $1K~ on a system and put up 150+. Of course, that is the same with any type of shop, it's going to cost you an ass load of money if you don't do the work yourself and pay retail...

There is a really common dual 10 design usually referred to as the X and I think similar to the coffee table design. But Bill Fitz Maurice sells design plans with driver recommendations, so you can take the thiele parameters and get whatever comes close.
