So I went and got fed up with the Cougar and got rid of it. Id had it sitting in the shop for 3 years and not gotten much done. I told the wife it was time to buy something different that ran that I could drive and tool on. Still unsure if i want to go V8 or something else. Anyone know of anything around 1k or less that has any possibility of being fun?

Man, I was just going to ask if you still had it and offer you $2500... J/K, that's just what always happens to me! I finally get rid of something and the next day someone wants to buy it! LOL
Don't know of anything that cheap right off hand, sorry.

I got an atv for that price :) nowadays consider yourself lucky to find just something reliable for $1k but let alone something sporty too for under $1k is asking too much.

Actually, you could buy that notch back from my buddy Curtis. The floors are rough and Dustin said the quarters are too (i didn't notice this myself but I didn't look at any of it too hard and Dustin knows his shit so...) but it does run and drive and is a decently fun car. floor pans are cheap, just a decent amount of work... same with the quarters...
$500 cash will get that I'm sure... worth it IMO...

That's exactly what I was gonna suggest. You better snatch it up before I get the nerve to. I really don't need another vehicle around my place till I get my boat put away in storage, but can't beat that price. Especially for a v8, 5spd, Notch.

and a 25th anniversary at that... OK, so that probably doesn't mean shit but still...

i told him if no one jumped on it, and he got desperate, that i would give him $450 cash for it. not that its not worth more; i just dont have a lot of time to fix yet ANOTHER project just to get it on the road. i have enough of those!

Wow, I am surprised he didn't take that. The notch isn't Curtis', it's his buddies, that's probably why.

I was going to mention fox bodies but didn't know you can get a decent one for $1k as they are sought after by a lot of drag racers.
I've seen 1st gen 1979-1985 fb rx7 swaps with 5.0 ford or sbc motors in them. cheap and fast because fb's weigh like 2400lbs. not for $1k though but maybe starting at $2k. also 1986-1991 rx7 swaps with ford 5.0 or sbc's are also cheap although those weigh in more around 2850lbs.

That notch is tempting and i have been thinking about doing an fb or fc V8 swap. That or a Volvo 240 V8. The biggest thing is finding a decent roller or something with bad compression or something. I still have that 306 I bought from sLoW that Id like to toss in something. Time will tell ive been killing alot of time on craigslist looking for something decent that isnt going to rape my budget and its doable it just takes time.

Well, you can get the notch and the FC roller for less than $1k combined. That swap is about as simple as it gets.
Also, I have a buddy that works out at ProTow, he said they are getting ready to have another auction, might be something out there.

FDs look so much like a Ford Probe remixed that i just dont like them that much. Coworker of mine is trying to get me to buy his E30 BMW to throw my V8 in but im not sold yet.

agreed, and I think the Supras look too much like the Celicas or rather celicas look like a bastard child of an FD and a Supra....
