I am ready to buy a new carb for my bbf 2001 mustang. and i have been getting alot of mixed answers on what size i need so here are the specs.

started off as a high output 460 out of a 70 mark 375 hp from the factory

i bored it 30 over with forged flat tops 11.1 compression

also have the dove c heads a litlte port work done more on the exhast

performer rpm intake

COMP Cams #34-602-5 Big Mutha Thumpr.... mostly for the sound haha

i will be racing this car 1/4 and im not much worried about street use but i will drive it here and there, and gas mileage is not a worry i could care about that , it is a race car.

.

now my question is what size carb do i need. i have got my hand on a few for a good price some i think may be to big. on of those is a demon 1000cfm it was used 2 times and taken off and i can get it for 400 bucks which i thought was cheap but i also think it is to much carb.. any ideas?

850 cfm is a popular choice for mild med 460's trust me. Been a ford guy for 30+ yrs. I saw one at earlville in a 69 stang go hi 10's w nitrous and mild cam, hdrs, a intake and 850 holley. I asked him. Grind out exhaust all you can. esp the top and short turn.

I imagine that demon w 1k cfm has huge throttle plates but could be a modified 850 cfm like a holley size w no choke horn and smooth venturis. If that's the case it will work fine as it is just more efficient. I was just thinking what they can do to increase cfm ratings w a smaller holley like cfm carb. My lil bro ran a 850 dp holley on his nova and like I said 460 were popular w that size if stock holley and what ford and ak miller used on modified 460's..
