so since i got all these old pics uploaded, i figured i could post up some pics of my Duster from the beginning. i got the car when i was 18; initial work was over the winter of '01-'02. didnt quite get it done in time for graduation from highschool. bummer. anyway, to the pics:

the starting point: a well worn '72 340 Duster with no motor or trans:

car was repainted Yellow once, over the original B5 Blue paint

Chevy guy mustve owned it at one point; someone flat-blacked in engine bay:

dent in the radiator support

i pulled the carpet and the floors were so rotted, i could literally push my fingers through them:

trunk floor wasnt much better

pulled the vinyl top and found some rust on the roof as well. sunroof was added by someone later in the cars life. did a shitty job sealing it, and it rusted the roof:

as youd expect for a rustbelt car, bad rockers:

i had an adjuster on a rocker arm back out one night while i was racing Rob. i didnt have he money to fix it at the time, and it pretty much made me re-think my whole plan. i was already running in the mid 11's with no cage and lap belts in a rickety rusted car. it really wouldnt be too safe to run much faster in it, so i decided to park the car, and build it up right. unfortunatly, other projects and buying a house have gotten in the way a bit, but i have gathered a lot of parts and even saved a little money for the car. hopefully i can get some work done on it and maybe even update this thread sometime.

Didn't you almost get a ticket or something retarded awhile back from the picture of you doing a burnout?

yeah, got pulled over by a Marion cop because he had seen a burnout pic i posted on here. profiling pretty much. he told me if he found the pic and could have it enhanced to prove it was me driving, they could still give me a wreckless driving ticket for it even though it was years before. tax dollars hard at work- he has nothing better to do but check our forum and harass me for insignifigant shit from previous years.

awesome, long years in the making. maybe you should just sell me your truck and you can focus more on that duster?

Never knew you had pics from clear back then, sweet update. Should actually do a today shot.

maybe in a week or so i'll get one. its getting pretty well stripped down- i got a guy driving down from Wisconsin this weekend to get the whole front suspension off of it. im pretty psyched really- ive saved every dollar ive made off of the stuff ive been selling off of it, and ive got a pretty good chunk saved for when i actually start working on the Duster again. now if i could just get the damn truck running!

What do you do with a shell that has that much rust? I'd be afraid to get it acid dipped. Sand blast and replace panels as needed I guess? As far as your going with it, you could have kept it as is for cruising and started a whole new one.

BTW, I stopped and talked to Jim at North Dao Pizza...whatever he says about me isnt true.

i'll probably have the whole car sandblasted. the worst rot is from the door back- and the plan was to go with a whole ladder bar rear clip anyway. i knew i would need new quarters/rockers and rear floors anyway; i just need to talk to Brian and Scott and figure out what'll all need to go down with it.

Going to post in here since you linked to it lol.

Never knew that's how the Duster started out, will be great to see it back on the road when you get back to working on it!
