Hey guys,
I can't really remember how I found this forum but I am glad I did, its nice to find a local group of guys into the same stuff I am. A little about me, I am a Ford guy for the most part but I like pretty much anything that has an engine and drives. I've owned my fair share of toys: 91 SHO, 97 SHO V8, 89 Mustang GT, 79 Mustang 351, 88 Cougar 5.0. About a year ago I bought a new project, an 85 Mercury Cougar XR7 (2.3 turbo) it had 85K and I got it and a parts car for $150. Its a little rough but is getting torn down for body work and paint. As far as the engine I am not a fan of having a four cylinder so I am building a good 302 to go in it along with a 5-speed when I find one for a reasonable deal. My goal at first is around 300Hp for starters and work from there. Well let me know what you think :yawinkle:
Note: the green stripe is a tape layout for a paint idea so no its not painted on there  (I get asked about it alot).

Looks pretty neat, I bet that turbo engine is worth some money to someone who likes those.

Its not that I think the 2.3 Turbo is junk or anything, its just that I'm a V8 guy. I will more than likely sell the engine to someone to use in a project of their own but I need a V8 growling in my Cougar. I want it to sound like a mean cat not a kitten :D.
I forgot to mention my DD is a beat to hell 98 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP I picked up for $800. I was actually suprised how much I like these L67 supercharged 3800's.

Welcome to the site.
We're scattered all throughout Iowa, but a lot of us are in Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, and Iowa City. Looks like you're not too far away at all.
IAF has been around for about 5 and a half years now. We were previously under the name "CRunderground" but eventually changed the name to appeal to a different audience.
Nice project you have there. If you need anything, get ahold of me or DustinsDuster. Dustin pretty much runs the show around here anymore and he's always willing to answer a question. He's also a V8 guy.
Again, welcome!

Thanks man, I will definitly keep that in mind. Never know when you'll need help!

Well to be honest its not really all that different, these cars are just mildly elongated Fox chassis cars. There are quite a few Fox Mustang parts that are useable not to mention these cars are fairly cheap compared to Mustangs where any old POS seems to go for 1K complete with rot and beat to hell engine. I kinda like being different, keeps everything interesting :bigthumb:

I understand your need for a v8 rumble. Nothing tops it.

Trust me man, you don't want to. Its a sad sight. Flat green paint, its been hit by a deer (Yes the deer hit the car, not the other way around ), deployed bags (No idea why. Pros of the car: Its on its second motor (Low mileage), tranny seems strong, supercharged. It was fast and cheap so I picked it up

Oh I was thinking $225 was a pretty reasonable deal. It only has 86K on it. I will entertain offers though. $225 will take it home. I guess I need to get to work pulling it out huh?
As for 302 parts I was looking for cast GT40P heads off of a 98-02 Explorer V8. I need to find a good set of these for my build.

Welcome.. yes I am a ford guy also. I always wanted to do a 85 tbird, lot more aero than my 85gt was. Still smaller than the later ones and like you said lot of stang parts work. Elliot and glidden ran those for a while. Right now stuck w a 6 speed 03 stang and my old 69 fastback.
