he put the time and money into it. im sure he has a running list somewhere knowing him. i drove it once and you get used to it fast. Its a little stiffer but you can still turn with one hand. dont need a lot of grunt

while driving it wouldnt be bad, but at a dead stop in a parking lot...not so fun...
Drifte

Yea not bad, I have power steering for it still too, just like a clutter free engine bay too much. I have a running list of parts and a binder with every receipt for everything from engine oil, to machine work. Its over 15k, I stopped adding at that point though.
Ricky
08-12-2009, 06:54 PM
scary! 15k?
However the receipts for everything should help you get what your asking for it since you can prove it.
i take it by you selling this you are looking to get a truck?
Drifte
08-30-2009, 06:00 PM
yea a truck. Can come with a whole other parts car (turbo fwd) if ya want.

If for some reason you still have it next spring - I'm thinking about selling my bird around then.
I'd sooooooooo pick it up haha.
Just what I need too, I have enough issues learning my way around on a good ol' V8 - My brain would probably turn to mush trying to work on a turbo DSM of that caliber.

dont feel bad, the older i get, and the more i learn, the more i realize i dont know near as much as id like to think i do. i have 10-12 years of working on V8's under me, and i still feel like i dont know much about them. the DSM engine in my truck is also very humbling...

I might have missed this but how many miles are on the rebuilt motor? Are they stock internals and just a hone? How are the tires? Do all the power options like locks and windows work? Heat works I am assuming? Are they any numbers as for as dynos or ETs? Any info is helpful, I am looking for a new daily driver and this happened to catch my eye. Also, how does venting post MAF feel? To my understanding this would result in a sudden rich situation upon shifting?
Drifte
11-28-2009, 10:05 AM
New tires, stock internals with ARP hardware, keyless entry with alarm on it, power windows work, heats amazing. No dyno time or track time with the car. Venting the bov has no great effect, I did intend to recirculate it but have not found a dire need to. It may add some fuel but its running less fuel than stock already so its pretty well compensated. Stock WOT AFR's are 9.2:1 or something like that. In this weather its running 11:1.
Clinical

if I'm correct - I think the car only has like 1-3k on the rebuild if I remember the thread correctly. Don't quote me on it - just thought I'd chime in since I think Drifte missed it :P
I'd have to go and see what was the last date he posted the miles on the rebuild in his thread for the car.

Mustang was a pos that I didn't care about overall, and at the time I'll admit I was pretty retarded with it.
Firebird actually is dirty from hitting two major puddles on a gravel road dropping a friend's mom off at her house - other then that I rarely go on gravel roads. I wash the firebird rarely too unless theres an even/show I want to go to as I don't want to give the rust a reason to develop further.
If you had seen the laser when I first got it you'd shit yourself how dirty it was. Yellow stains on the windows from smoke, trash covering the floor, leaves/dirt and shit all over the interior. It's definitely still not anywhere as clean as the talon but its WORLDS better than when I got it.
The talon will be extremely well taken care of. I intended to make it a DD but soon as I get rid of the firebird and the laser I'm buying something in the way of a small truck or civic to DD - I already feel bad DDing this car its so nice..
I know it was already pretty clean from Drifte washing it but I washed and waxed it about an hour ago in my garage. It got a bit dirty from just the trip home and I still had a bunch of wax and stuff from when I did my mustang before I sold it... wasn't doing anything this morning so I figured why not.
She's nice and clean and I'll keep it that way.
Intended to put power steering back in it but the engine bay is truly ridiculously clean - I'll get used to it and keep it the way it is to keep the engine bay so clean.
Only thing on the to-do list right now is fixing the E-brake.
May also take the window tint off just because cop's are known around here for pulling people over for shit like that. I love the way it looks with it - I may go ahead and go with 70% but it wont be the same.

If you don't mind me asking... what was the final sale price?
Clinical
12-18-2009, 12:50 AM
4500..
I actually had my mind set on a talon in Indiana I was going to get on Thursday.
Granted it was about just as clean as Drifte's talon exterior wise - it was essentially stock with a few minor mods and no where near as tastefully done all around as Drifte's car.
I posted my thread about looking for a DSM or F-body and Drifte pm'd me saying he'd do 4500...
I at first debated on doing it because I literally only had 4k to spend... However my friends with the 12 sec talon/civics convinced me I'd be stupid to pay almost the same for a near stock talon...
So in addition to my bank loan, I owe a relative $500 but the laser will probably be gone within a couple weeks so I can pay off the relative.. Whenever firebird sells I'll be paying off my bank loan.

It'll be taken to the track probably in April or May.
To-do list before then is just to get the launch control set up and the E-brake fixed.
Also looking at DSMLink.
If you'd want to go to the track when I do and want to make a pass with it I'd be more than willing to turn her over to you.
My buddy with the talon rode with me the night I brought it back and said he's guessing mid 13's. We'll see eventually :)
Just took the firebird off and put it in a friend's garage she's letting me store it there until April so I can keep the talon in the garage here.
Had to get a couple of pictures of all three before I took it away.
I think my washing/waxing yesterday was wasted effort :-/
