I Just got stranded at the fucking gas station with this car. It was running fine when I pulled in.

THis I know that is good.

ECU because the CEL comes on boost gauge goes to 0 and I can hear it click
Fuel pump I can hear the walbro and the FPR has pressure

It acts like it wants to start for about 1/2 a second then you try to give it gas it does nothing.

I'm fed up with this car. fuck this car.

if i had a dollar for every thread like this that ive read. dont give up. it might have a lot of problems, but what other kind of car could you buy for cheap and run like hell with it? it might have a lot of problems, but thats part of the love/hate relationship.

its funny im reading this while searching for a few parts for my dsm...

your all in or your out.

06-17-2009, 05:15 PM
hahaha I dont know what to do. I dont know if its the coil or tr unit or what the hell it is.

Everything on the car is basically brand new. I'm just tired of it. It was running fine when I pulled in then I shut the car off and turned it on to keep the fans going went in and paid. I then come out to start it and it just turns over.

so until I get it home I wont be able to find out whats wrong with the turd.

i have some extra coils laying around if you want to try one out.

06-17-2009, 08:13 PM
Not a coil its a power tr unit that took a crap.... and the one that I have laying around is for a 90.... I took one off a 94 at the junk yard that I cant seem to find. son of a bitch.

06-17-2009, 08:33 PM
that or a bad cas...

06-17-2009, 11:42 PM
I have a green top now I also have a black top somewere. I'm going to try the power tr first then cas.

Its not so much the DSM in genreal its the fact that your driving a 18-19 year old car! If you want it to be reliable moded you need to replace things, in some cases everything.

06-18-2009, 03:42 PM
I need a power tr unit out of a 91-94 car (2.0 car) asap anyone have them? I checked our local junkyards and I took the tr unit out of the car down there but now I cant find it.

you might want to call it an ignition control module or igniter while looking for the part, i have a few in stock 75 bucks used or 139.00 new.

Just friendly advice

jeez, go to a junkyard and get one. You can get them off the non-turbo cars also.

yeah I went yesterday to the local ones. one junkyard had a 2g and one 1gb and nothing on them.

the other had 1 2g and 3 1g's but all the 1gs are 1.8l and no motors in all the cars.

I called a buddy who has some dsm parts laying around and he thinks he has one but hasnt contacted me yet. I bought one off of egay for 38 bucks.

I might just switch to cop I have everything to do it. would the cas couse a problem like this?

Drifte
06-19-2009, 03:49 PM
it can. My cas and SAFC had some issues and the car just shut off and would start. Unplugged the afc and it ran better, replaced the cas and it ran great. I have a power transistor but IDK if its good. I also have that other cas, which is questionable.

06-19-2009, 08:03 PM
well its not the cas. I swapped out the green top for a good black top and no dice.

Tomorrow I will swap the coils until my transistor shows up.

Check your coolant temp sensor. If you have the tools to read what the coolant temp sensor is (datalogger, dsmlink) and if it doesn't read close to what ambient temp is then that is your problem.

Also have you ever checked the caps in your ECU? If they go bad, they can cause all kinds of problems. You can open up your ecu and if it smells like rotten fish...pretty good chance they are leaking. They are located in the middle/top of the board (towards the plugs) and there are 3 capacitors and it will be obvious if they are leaking.

Check those few things and get back to us.

06-23-2009, 12:56 PM
ECU was rebuilt last fall when I got DSMlink. Plus if the caps were leaking I would have a hard time trying to connect to my ecu via dsmlink.

TbTalon94
06-23-2009, 01:15 PM
You'd be suprised, the caps leaking can cause all kind of funky things to go wrong. Stuff that you wouldn't think is possible...lol i've been there.

06-23-2009, 02:31 PM
Well Now I have a fuel issue. I got the spark fixed.

I took off one of the coupler by the tb and sprayed some starting fluid in the car and boom started right up until it burned all the starting fluid.

I know the pump works you can hear it the injectors are brand new maybe 1k on them so I assume its the newer 1k fuel filter because I did run e85 through it and it might be clogged.

I'm just lost.

06-23-2009, 03:46 PM
well the fuel filter wasn't in the best of shape. but still nothing. I hooked the laptop up to it and I dont get anything when I hit the fuel injectors.

what about the coolant temp sensor like trevor said. Plug you dsmlink in and log it and post it up what it says

06-23-2009, 07:40 PM
Yeah thats going to have to wait to later tonight when it stops raining or just tomorrow. this makes it a little bit easier when your unemployed trying to work on things.

now I pulled the new plugs and they are drenched. as soon as i crack the throttle it stops trying to fire.

My timing marks line up I guess I'm just retarted.

06-23-2009, 11:02 PM
well I posted up a log on dsmtuners and someone noticed that the dead time was WAYYYY off it was at 2259 or something like that.

I put it back to normal and nothing... So I wonder I do now.

My laptop connects to dsmlink but for some reason the log screen wont show flat lines until I start it so Makes me wonder if the ecu took a dump. I will pull it tomorrow and see.

TbTalon94
06-24-2009, 06:27 AM
you really need to see if your coolant temp sensor is working correctly. When they go bad they tell the ecu it's really cold out and it dumps a TON of fuel in and the car will never start on it's own and will foul plugs.

Drifte
06-24-2009, 07:20 AM
If it starts with ether your coolant temp sensor is the problem. Check the wires to it as well, because half the time the wires just broken.

06-24-2009, 01:05 PM
Well I'm almost certian that its the ecu

I need another eprom I found one off an auto on ebay for CHEAP that I have the high bid on right now....

damn dsm..

06-24-2009, 01:23 PM
Can't say I didn't tell you

06-24-2009, 01:46 PM
LOL, Oh well.

I didn't want to think it was the ecu since it was rebuilt last summer and I could connect to dsmlink but oh well things happen for a reason. This is probably my whole tuning problem.

Jappbox
06-24-2009, 02:11 PM
Get the ECU fixed and Just drop it off with me or Trever and $100 and it will be tuned and runing great!!

06-24-2009, 02:15 PM
I might have to take you guys up on that offer!

I have a feeling that the ecu was taking a dump on me thats why it would act funny when I did anything on dsmlink.

06-24-2009, 02:17 PM
I would like to watch so I can learn how to do this. since I'm moving in a month or so I wont be able to just come up to cr to have you guys play with it.

damn alabama.

Ricky

could always try to just replace the caps yourself..... its basic soldering and if it doesnt work you are where you are at now.... just make sure you keep + and - apart.... get those two turned around and it will let you know with a loud pop and tons of smoke!

06-24-2009, 09:32 PM
lol I found a Eprom on ebay for an auto car but that wont matter since I have DSMlink so I'm hoping that people dont bid on it right now.

TbTalon94
06-25-2009, 07:05 AM
It's more then just soldering ricky, you have to clean that stuff off the board and then re-apply the gel like protective coating on the board. That's things most people can't do. I don't even know where to get the coating or what to clean it with. You might know mr. electric engineer?

06-25-2009, 07:17 AM
Holy shitty solder job batman.

Aaron

06-25-2009, 12:11 PM
The whole board seems like it has this spiderweb looking crap on it.

TbTalon94
06-25-2009, 12:18 PM
The spiderweb looking crap is the protective coating. What is the bad is the brownish shit at the solder points.

06-25-2009, 11:09 PM
well I just bought another eprom for 150 bucks.

Its not socketed but the board looks brand spankin new and it was for an auto so I think that was a okay price.

every one I ran across had leaking caps before and I just didn't feel like dealing with another leaky ecu.

Auto wont matter for me since I have DSMlink and then the trans is ran by its own TCU.

My question is my global was set at 38 i think for the M/t ECU and since the autos came with smaller injectors (390cc) would I have to bring down my global a bit to say 33?

Xboosted23X
06-25-2009, 11:16 PM
what size injectors do you have currently

06-25-2009, 11:54 PM
750cc.

I was just informed by an ecu guru that once I put my dsmlink chip in the ecu the ecu has no idea that it was an a/t ecu. Plus no speed limiter!

TbTalon94
06-26-2009, 06:31 AM
you leave your fuel pressure at whatever you want. You just have to adjust your fuel settings in dsmlink according to your fuel pressure.

I'd run 43-44 because that is what all aftermarket injectors are rated at. You set your deadtime/global/etc. accordingly and your good to go.
