View Full Version : Can't brag about my own car... here's my mom's new car

Since I'm still rockin' the same Cavalier that I've been driving since I was 16, and it gets uglier and uglier every year as all the fiberglass continues to crack and break, I get a free pass to talk about my mom's new car. Heck, I should get a medal for being able to keep a car running and relatively problem-free from age 16 to 23!

My mom had been driving a Grand Prix GTP since 2003. I thought that was a pretty sweet car actually. It had plenty of speed and all the bells n' whistles that you could ask for. I figured when they bought a new car, they wouldn't buy something nearly as cool.

My dad wanted a new Camaro or Mustang (he's owned both back in the 70's and 80's), but my mom wanted something 4-door because they do a lot of traveling. So they mixed what my dad wanted with what my mom wanted, and came up with this:

It's a 2009 Pontiac G8 GT. Here are the specs that I could find:

Performance
Base engine size 6.0 liters
Base engine type V-8
Horsepower 355 hp
Horsepower rpm 5,300
Torque 384 lb-ft.
Torque rpm 4,400
Maximum towing capacity 2,000 lbs.
Drive type rear-wheel
Turning radius 18.7 '

I had never personally driven a V8 car before (several trucks and SUVs, but never a car) so I don't have anything to compare it to, but this car was amazing. Extremely smooth ride and accelleration that was just crazy. There's only about 200 miles on it so I didn't want to get on it too much, but it was definitely a fun ride.

Ho-hum. One of these days I'll break down and buy a fun car. I just can't justify it right now. Don't want a $700-$800 car payment, for starters!

Its too bad they came with the DoD cam the motor has some major potential. If i wouldnt have got laid off til july i would have parted out my gtp and got a g8. How much did they pay?

I'm not sure about the price, I know these are usually in the $30k range, but I do know they got 0% interest financing on it, and they took that over a possibility of getting like $4,500 off the cost of the car after finding out it was cheaper. If I wasn't so lazy, I could bust out my financial calculator and use that to tell you about what they paid. lol

That's a Hyundai Genesis. Look it up Colton, you'd change your mind :)

I would rock a new Genesis and as un-Hyundai-like as it is (refined, V8 power, better build quality that typical Hyundai) deep down I'd still be driving a Hyundai. :? I did own a 99 Tiburon FX for like 2-2.5 months and that was long enough to learn to stay away from Hyundai and its 'sister' Kia. Amazing car none the less- one of the best things they have come out with for sure.

Exactly. Plus looks like the window molding melted when they made the clay model, and they just made it that way. Odd.

Start adding small mods to it when their not looking. Doesn't take much to get them going pretty quick.
