View Full Version : Really CuStom Work....

Really want to do what i texted you about last night. Been thinking about making a go-kart with that motor but the question of where would i drive it can to be.... Then i got that idea i talked about with you last night. Do you think it would work? I don't see why not we would just need to make sure it fit and could mount it correctly. A solid rear axle would make it easier and i would need a sprocket hub wedded on the axle... maybe utilize a key way system. what are your thoughts?

no it would require an "s" and thats expensive and hard to find.

You are talking about putting it in the rear right? All it would really require is mounting it back there right, and making a solid axle with a sprocket on it. All of which I can make easily. I can CNC cut a sprocket out to match whatever we need. Not a big deal Ricky :)

yeah thats what i was thinking. I can find the motor on ebay for around $1000 for the motor, tranny, wiring harness, gauge cluster and ecu. it would be some wiring and custom welding but nothing too bad. I'm planing on it only weighing about 1500 pounds max so it shouldn't be too much extra tq... the lighter i can get it the better. I think it would pretty straight forward. I am hopping to use the cars stock gas tank to feed the motor or better idea... put a custom fuel tank in the front of the car for better weight balance...
I need to find the cheep body.. thinking geo hatch or civic but a geo would be cooler and cheaper to get.

also its not just stopping with the motor swap but when we get it running perfect i want to turbo that motor.. im hopping when its all said and done to put down about 200hp at the wheels. but i would need a turbo to hit that mark, but that bridge is a long way off.
1500 pounds + 200Whp + RWD Mid engine = OMG FUN!

You can make that thing lighter. I'd do a fuel tank up front for better weight distribution. Plus it'd be neat to pop the hood to fill it with gas.

yeah i want to put a bike motor in a little hatch back car. i want to be able to drive it on the stree and kind of a sleeper look. I would strip the car down to as little weight as i could. still kinda drawing some things up and thinking about how to over come some issues

not too hard or even that expensive...
Me and Justin Helm built one a few years back. I had a 1980 Yamaha FJ600 that got stolen and wrecked so we used that drivetrain for a go-kart. It was rear engine, had a brake, gas and clutch pedal, the shifter was just a long metal rod welded to the shift lever on the trans and had a pivot point up front. It worked out really well for quite a while, it was SCARY!! We used a go-kart frame from one of those they sell at Theisens and just added soem reinforcement and stuff. Ended up trading it off for a pair of 6-wheelers...
ANYWAYS, good luck if you decide for sure to do it.

Yep it's gone. The person that bought it though said they only need it to last a short while so it might go back up for sale again soon!

If he's wanting to keep it to a minimum. I'll ask the guy again to see if he was serious about putting the geo I sold to him back up for sale once he gets his other vehicle taken care of. Let me know if your interested.
