View Full Version : This happens when you lose a fuel pump at 30lbs of boost

The pictures below are from spring 08. We had a fuel pressure issue and it made a big mess; bent three billet rods (Hydolocked), melted one piston #7, dropped a valve seat and put a hole in the head allowing all of the pieces from the seat to pass through the turbo destroying the exhaust wheel and because the burn was so hot and warped the heads so badly it also wiped out the cam journals destroying both heads. Overall a bad deal but without this happening it would be where it is today. It went 9.30 on the pass that this happened, I felt power fall off about half track, EGT's were well over 1750F on both sides, normally they are 1200F or so. Id say I was a little lean.

10lbs was too much for my puny rods at WOT in fifth.

I want to see more engine destruction pics now.

I wouldn't put a pound of boost in that motor after looking at those little toys. What motor did those come out of? Honda?

Here are some pictures of a 306 that I broke the crank in at 7500rpm with a Vortech YS and an Igloo, its the motor in the first picture

we have a wall of shame at our garage where we have all of our dead rod/pistons hanging. I have only Once lost a DSM piston, and it was no big deal easy fix. The honda motors are overtaking the wall. Those Rods (honda d15) are the size of my pinky, make my stock dsm rods look MASSIVE.

heres chads black gtp after he heard a knocking noise lol, it still ran, we were pulling rings and chunks of piston skirt outta the oil pan as well....the shiny parts around the edges of the pistons is where chunks broke off...

what you can't see in that pick is the 5 holes in the pan :/ Oh well though, You can pull 200ish hp out of a $50 engine, or 400hp out of a $1000 engine. I'd rather go cheap, cause either way it's totaled if there is a failure.

You must have had some massive detonation to knock chunks off the pistons!

wow, it looks like the cast crank broke and split the block. I've had that happen twice with stock blocks. It needed a lifter valley and a main girdle to keep the pieces together. haha

IDK if its the worst Ive seen but its for sure the worst Ive seen gathered up and photographed lol. Main girdle is stock on my car...not on v8?
