my girlfriend needs a new car, some what soon. so i have started casually looking around and am not really coming up with to much. im just looking for ideas on make, model, year and stuff like that. only requirements are 4dr, auto, and power everything pretty much. looking for anything under $5k.
this is not asking you to post what you have for sale, but ideas on cars to look for and what not to look for.
thanks.
oh and it can be SUV's too. just not a ford lol.

she hates grand ams, she doesnt want your normal chick car.
grand prix's all seem to have high ass miles in our price range.
and i've been looking at jeeps alot, but i kinda want her to have something with better gas mileage since i drive a truck...i dunno im still on the edge about SUVs, she's the one that wants one.

Jeeps are really tough to beat- especially the I6 (4.0) they are bullet proof; I have seem em run 250-300k miles and not burn a drop of oil or have any major engine failures. Yeah, I agree that the gas mileage isn't the greatest but they do 17mpg in the city and if you add a cai (sounds dumb on a jeep I know) it nets you another 2-3mpg so now your looking at 20mpg. Plus it runs good on regular gas- I ran a tank of premium in mine a few times and it was averaging 3mpg less.

dk has stock springs
that i have to put in...
idk, i kinda want to put her in something like a PT cruiser or HHR, but obviously cant afford a HHR. but same time she needs good gas mileage. i wish she knew how to drive in shitty weather so i didnt have too.. it would make looking for a new car alot easier.

cant drive = FWD. AWD does require some skill as its completely different to drive. I could help you put in the springs, needs new struts in the rear anyway. I will be coming in to town tonight spending some time in CR interviewing and such. If you dont buy the accord I may as the talons down for some internal drivetrain work :/
No PT Loser's, or HHR's allowed! Piles of junk, i've driven plenty of the PT's and they suck pretty hard.

S10 Blazer?? If so check out the balljoints. Just about everyone I've seen has problems.

and if its a vortec, checks the intake manifold gaskets for leaking coolant into the cylinders.
lil krumm

its not just vortecs that have that problem, all GMs cause the stupid fuckin coolant they use. but that blazer seemed nice, first one ive found under 5k with under 100k miles...

^ No its probably something to do with the EGR port just like the rest of GM's v6's plastic intake manifold cars. Heat+plastic=warpage

High mileage on a honda is 300k+. And besides, engines are easily available, under $1k and usually way cheaper, and easy to install. Those tards at Vapid Performance could even do honda swaps and apparently they don't have enough common sense to get through life. Suspension wear parts are fucking cheap too. I got a kit of upper control arms (left and right), lower ball joints, outer tie rod ends, inner tie rod ends, and front sway bar links for $120 shipped. Redid my front end in a weekend in the garage. My car got raped by the potholes on 380 last year  I only mention this because I believe they might even fit on that integra. I  Honda.

Tracker 4x4, add 2-3" lift, some 235's or 30x9.5, brushguard & winch. Not enough power to be hard on the drive train, or have the 4x4 steering issues for her driving it in the snow that Drifte has. Easy to find, cheap to modify and decent MPG. Longer wheelbase of 4 door will help keep her going straight.
Or if your willing to wait 6-8 months or so I know of a 2000 Nissan Frontier Crewcab that might go for around $3000, mileage will be 130k at that point and have some maintance issues but nothing you guys can't handle.

Stop by here at work and you can see it. Black, parked under canopy next to my car most of the time.
price is 1$ more than they'll give him on trade in, offered him $4000 in the fall, expects it to drop to 3k by the time he's ready.

My pops had a 2000 Frontier crew cab. I remember scraping little pieces of melted rubber off of the running boards and from inside the wheel wells. Not a bad truck.
