They are shutting down all operations in canada, mexico and usa for least a month. Workers get 95% of pay at least in usa. If you read it also see gm, ford, toyota, and mitsubishi is extending holidays read shutdown, or not expanding operations. They say 20/ 25% of buyers can't get a loan.

That's too bad.

I wonder if auto factory jobs may one day turn into a seasonal type of job sort of like construction. I'm sure in Michigan, it's a lot more expensive to run their factories in the dead of winter with all the heating bills and probably increased transportation costs.

That may be a source of increased profits for them. Keep a higher amount of workers, increase production, but shut down operations between December and February. Try to get all of the vehicles built when the weather is warmer outside. Workers could choose to get part-time jobs during the winter like some teachers do, and then they wouldn't need to lower their wages at all. The company can spend the winter months performing quality inspections on the machines in the factory and making sure they're all running correctly. It's probably easier to do those things when they aren't in service anyway.

Just a thought. These guys get paid lots of money like construction workers do. It might eventually turn into one of those types of businesses that takes a couple months off in the winter.

that 95% could be based upon a 40hr straight time workweek. Maybe if they normally work all 7 days w ot that could be 68hrs of pay. x1.5 sat and x2.0 sunday. That would be a lot of $ missing. Add it up 40+12+16 at 30/hr. vs 95% of 40 hrs. 2040 is lot mo than 1140. Yes, I agree that's like being on vac pay. But look at all the angles.

Sounds like any car forum, only thing different we make no money off of arguing...lol How can we do that, make money for arguing? Go to school to be a lawyer....

I worked hard in city gov. even being management. Why I went to private co. plus pay is better.
